The online word processor that's already open.
A free Word and WordPad alternative in your browser, with a slash menu instead of a ribbon. Type / and every command is right where your cursor is. No download, no license, no account.

Type today. Get today's date.
Some things you retype in every document: your name, your email, the date at the top of the page. Write the variable instead and it fills itself in the moment you close the brackets.
The date takes any format you want after a double colon — DD.MM.YYYY by default, or spell the month out, or go ISO. Month names follow whatever language the editor is in. Pick one from Insert ▸ Variable if you'd rather not remember the tokens.
What lands on the page is plain text, not a live field. A letter you wrote last March still says March when you open it today.

- [[today::YYYY-MM-DD]]
- [[today::DD.MM.YYYY HH:mm]]
You wanted to write one page. That shouldn't cost you five minutes.
You know the sequence. Open Word and wait for it to load, then dismiss the sign-in prompt, then skip a template gallery you didn't ask for. Or open Google Docs, sign into the right account, wait for the file list, click New.
EDTRpad skips all of it. You're already in the editor. Type, format, print or export, close the tab. The whole thing takes as long as the writing does.
It's the part of Word most people actually use: bold, lists, tables, images, print. With none of the part they don't.

Everything you'd expect. Nothing you have to learn.
Every command behind one key
Type / and the menu comes to your cursor. Filter by typing, insert with Enter. Full keyboard shortcuts for everything else, so a whole document can happen without touching the mouse.
A real word processor, not a text box
Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough. Font families, sizes, text color, highlight color. Bulleted and numbered lists. Tables from a visual grid picker. Images you can paste, resize, crop, rotate, flip and align. Real page breaks that hold on screen and in print.
Opens what you already have
Drag in a .docx, .txt or .html file and it opens right there. Export back out as Word .docx, HTML or plain text, and the .docx opens cleanly in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages. No upload step, no conversion queue, no "processing your file" screen.
Prints like paper, not like a webpage
Set page margins anywhere from 0.5 cm to 2 cm and print exactly what you see. If you've ever printed a document from a browser and watched the layout fall apart, this is the part you'll notice.
Your document stays in your browser.
Without an account, there's no upload and no copy on our servers. What you type is written to your browser's local storage on this device, and it's still there when you come back to the tab.
We can't read your document, because we never receive it. Nothing is scanned, nothing is used for training, nothing is sold.
If you want it on your other devices, that's what an account is for. And that stays your choice, not the default.
Start anonymous. Add an account only if you want one.
Everything above works with zero setup. When you'd rather not be tied to one browser:
- Keep as many documents as you like, all in one place
- Pick up on any device. Start on your laptop, finish on your phone
- Still completely free. No premium tier, no paywall, no trial clock
Three steps, and the first one already happened

What people open it for
Looking for WordPad?
Microsoft removed WordPad from Windows in the 24H2 update, after about thirty years. There's no setting to bring it back and no official replacement, which leaves an awkward gap, because Notepad can't bold a word and Word is a subscription.
EDTRpad covers what WordPad did: rich text, tables, images, page breaks and printing. It runs in a browser tab instead of an installed window, so it also works on a Mac, a Chromebook, a phone, or a computer you don't have permission to install software on. And it's a good deal faster to drive, because there's no menu bar between you and the thing you want.
